About Me

Hello! My name is Renat Norderhaug and I am a Software Engineer currently living in San Jose, CA. I am working as a Software Engineer at Unified an iHeartMedia company. I made this website to showcase some of my work, and show who I am.

My Story

Greetings! My journey into the realm of coding commenced at the tender age of 10 when I authored my first lines of code for a standalone Java application. Fueled by an innate curiosity and a burgeoning passion for computer science, my initial foray into the world of coding was motivated by a deep-seated fascination with video games. In those early days, I spent countless hours crafting and customizing video game interfaces, driven by the desire to create immersive experiences for my friends and me. Hosting private servers on my laptop became second nature, and my insatiable appetite for knowledge led me to scour Google for tutorials on game development, further enhancing our gaming adventures.

College marked a pivotal chapter where my interest pivoted towards low-level programming with the Arduino. Delving into the intricacies of circuitry, I found myself consumed by the Arduino's manual, unraveling the mysteries of each bit on every register. This exploration ignited a fervor for understanding the marriage of hardware and software. As my journey unfolded, my focus expanded to include Software Engineering for blockchain applications and the fascinating realm of Computer Security. Now, armed with a wealth of experiences and a relentless drive to delve deeper into the world of computer science, I am poised to embark on a new chapter through a graduate degree program. Join me on this exciting voyage as I continue to evolve, learn, and contribute to the ever-evolving landscape of computer science.

The Rest

When I am not working my hobbies include flying drones, hiking, working out, reading, basketball, and learning about finance. I am a very enthusiastic, self-motivated individual, who is continuously improving.

Projects

Some projects I have worked on throughout my career.

Nevada RAVE

Mobile first web app for Nevada RAVE, used in-house by the company to check in/check out staff members and store COVID-related medical information. You can find a demo here.

Airbnb calendar microservice

System design for a calendar microservice utilizing PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Nginx, AWS EC2, S3, Docker, New Relic, Mocha, and Chai. I successfully implemented horizontal web scaling to handle over 100 million records of data. You can find a link to the repository here.

Trip planning microservice

Trip planning microservice utilizing React, styled-components, Node.js, Express.js, Webpack, MySQL, AWS EC2, Jest, and Enzyme. I integrated the Google Maps API to display a modal showing the location of a vacation. You can find a link to the repository here.

Hackathons

First place at the iHeartMedia 2021 Hackathon! Demo
